Education System in the UK

It is a known fact that the UK has a rich history and heritage which is also true in the case of the universities there. Most of the universities are old and prestigious and are proud of their history and heritage, however, it does not mean that all are following the old ways of education. There are universities or other educational institutions as modern as any modern-day college or university. They have beautifully included modern techniques and strategies into their education system so that they are updated and at par with any other place. If you enroll in any of the modern universities in the UK you will find a positive amalgamation of modern and traditional styles of teaching.

Difference between Modern and Traditional Universities

There are two categories of universities in the UK namely; Traditional and Modern. The classification was done as per the date of establishment, however there are relevant differences as well between them. Let’s check them out.

Traditional

Earlier, there were many differences between both types of universities and there was a clear demarcation between them. The traditional universities used to run as per the old style and norms. There was discrimination between people of two genders and clearly, the men were given preference over women. The traditional universities were expensive and provided deep knowledge of the field and their main focus was research and development, they were more theoretical. These were really expensive and only the rich could get educated there.

Modern

Over the period, due to modernization and technical developments, the new universities that were opened had a different approach towards education. These universities were just opposite of the Traditional universities. They focused more on imparting practical knowledge and therefore emphasized developing skills. The courses were also shorter and gave the knowledge that was needed. These universities believed in equality between genders and had more participation from women than men. Also, this provided education at an affordable fee so was within reach of the majority of the people who wanted to study.

How to make the right choice?

It is really difficult to choose between the range of universities present in the UK. You must look at all the aspects of education and the prospects of education as per the profession you wish to have in the future. Based on that you should pick the type of university you want to enroll in. Employers these days prefer the employees who have good practical skills as that is required to fulfill the tasks assigned, in such a case Modern university is better, however, if you wish to work as an academic then it is better that you choose Traditional university.
