Kharar is the rapidly growing town of Punjab connected to Mohali city which shares its border with Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab. There were just farmlands and small villages in the area few years ago but at present it has grown up to become a very big cluster of townships due to the development in the field of Building and Construction. Most of the people living in Chandigarh and Mohali have moved to Kharar as they could get the land or property at reasonable cost. The place is connected to Mohali and Chandigarh through great roads and public transport making it easy to commute daily for work or study. Kharar is known for the only Chemical Testing Laboratory of Punjab for viscera examination and the Forensic laboratory which are quite useful in speeding up the justice delivery in legal cases.

Kharar has some very good schools like Christian boys high school established in 1891, IPS senior secondary school, Henderson Jubilee senior secondary school, Kharar was established in 1975 and many others which provide great education which is at par with the international standards. It does have some good universities too, such as Chandigarh University, Rayat-Bahra University etc. The youth of the place is very aware and knows that they have to leave their home town for career as Kharar lacks good employment opportunities. Therefore, they plan things beforehand and those who could manage to do that, they go to various foreign countries for that. Students of Kharar have been going to developed nations like Canada, UK, and USA etc. for education and later work because that promises a better future.
