The UK is well known for its world-class education and teaching methodology. Thousands of students prefer migrating to the UK every year, and the trend is increasing. It is essential to know the latest updates about the country’s policy.
As per the immigration policy, international students who are coming to the UK have to submit evidence or show proof that they have sufficient savings with them and can easily support their living expenses in the UK. There are many universities which are situated in London and outside London. Now the expenses or the financial evidence amount is also different for inside London and outside London.
New Monthly Maintenance Costs for UK Student Visas
Previously, international students needed to show financial evidence of £1,334/month for studying in London and £1,023/month for locations outside London. But now the rates are revised. Under the revised rules, the monthly requirement has increased to £1,483 for students in London and £1,334 for those planning to study outside London.
UKVI has decided to increase the maintenance fund requirements for international students because of rising inflation. Since the general living cost and maintenance costs have gone, the new and updated requirements were published in September 2024 but will be active in the New Year 2025, January onwards.
According to the new requirement, students studying in the UK for 9 months or more will have to show evidence of £ 13,348 of total savings when applying for their visa. With the cost of living rising globally, especially in famous urban areas like London, where the cost of living is already very high and also rising rapidly. These changes will ensure that international students are financially secure while living in or during their stay in the UK.
Maintenance Changes for the Dependents
There will surely be maintenance changes for dependents, which means dependents will also be required to show evidence of increased maintenance charges. The UK government has signalled a review of dependents’ requirements, but so far, nothing is clear, and no final decision has been announced.
Students who are planning for next year’s 2025 intake can make a decision and apply now to avoid the higher cost, as this particular rule will be active from January 2025, so students have time to apply in December to avoid high costs.
Moreover, earlier this year, the rate of £1 was less than 100 INR, which has crossed 100 INR end of 2024, and it is anticipated to increase in 2025, which could be 110 to 130 INR. Therefore, students who are sure to apply for the UK should not miss an opportunity to apply in 2024.
